Menopause care
Menopause and perimenopause can be a hugely challenging time in a woman’s life. Major changes to hormonal levels occur which produce wide ranging, profound and often debilitating symptoms. When coupled with work, family, and financial pressures, which often come at this stage in life, it can make this time feel overwhelming. I aim to improve quality and enjoyment of life using HRT, as well as providing lifestyle advice, which enhances treatment effects and improves general health and well-being. Menopausal care is a constantly evolving field and I keep up to date with novel treatments and evidence through my involvement with the British Menopause Society and have lectured at their annual scientific meeting.
Education and Experience
I qualified from Nottingham University in 1996 and completed specialist training in all aspects of gynaecology, including menopause care. I have completed a research MD and have worked as a consultant in Gynaecology and Gynaecological Oncology at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, the Health Share Clinic and Spire Norwich Hospital since 2009. I am a senior lecturer at the University of East Anglia and am also the course director for a national training course relating to the development of advanced laparoscopic surgery. More recently, I have introduced robotic surgery in gynaecology at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. I maintain an active interest in research through the delivery of several national and international clinical trials.
Lifestyle and Interests
I have a keen interest in providing patient choice through clinical innovation and individualised, woman-centred, treatment plans. To complement menopause care, I am also able to offer gynaecological investigations and surgical treatments when needed. I can offer the full range of services that might be required as women pass through this stage in life. I am also able to provide HRT implants, which can be of great value for women with resistant menopausal symptoms. I believe in a holistic approach to tackling menopause problems focusing not just on HRT but the use of exercise and lifestyle factors to enhance symptom control, improve quality of life and reduce risk.
Outside of work I am married and have two children who keep me very busy. When I have time, I enjoy cycling and cooking, although not at the same time!
